Cotes de Gascogne Tannat

I drank a bottle of this medium-bodied wine from the South-West of France recently (the 2012 100% Tannat from Famille Laplace in the AOP Madiran) and thought it was delicious. Wine made from Tannat is rarely seen on supermarket wine shelves, which is partly why I chose it. If Tannat is known for having high levels of tannin, the Famille Laplace have done a good job of overcoming that characteristic of the grape to create a wine with little tannin, flavours of summer fruits and an almost sweet, juicy finish. A very quaffable wine.
